Warts & Verucas

Warts are very common non-cancerous growths of the skin caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV). Warts are particularly common in school-aged children, but they may arise at any age. Warts have a hard surface. A tiny black dot may be observed in the middle of each scaly spot, due to a thrombosed capillary blood vessel.

Common warts arise most often on the backs of fingers or toes, around the nails and on the soles of feet. Viral warts are hardly ever a serious problem. However, warts may be painful, and they often cause embarrassment and you can spread them to family members or friends.

To get rid of them, we have to stimulate the body’s own immune system to attack the wart virus. Persistence with the treatment and patience is essential!

Your aesthetic nurse Isabel Lavers has many years of experience in dermatology and will be able to help you find the most appropriate treatment.

Following a detailed consultation a treatment plan is produced. This may consist of recommended anti-fungal medication your GP can prescribe or you can obtain from your chemist or via a private prescription from your clinic (Isabel is an independent nurse prescriber). In addition, topical treatment to remove the overlying skin, laser treatment to vaporise the wart, are some of the options to treat your warts and verrucae.
